FAQ

What is The St. Leonard’s Society of Hamilton (SLSH)?

SLSH is a non-profit organization contracted by Correctional Service Canada (CSC) to provide structured and supportive residential services to adult males being released from federal incarceration under parole supervision.

Who do you serve?

SLSH provides residential and community-based services to adult males who are under federal parole supervision. This includes individuals released from federal institutions and those requiring structured support.

What is a Community Residential Facility (CRF)?

A CRF, commonly known as a halfway house, is a supervised residential setting that supports individuals on federal parole as they transition back into society.

How many programs do you operate?

SLSH operates two CRFs in Hamilton: Clinton House (34 beds) and Robert Street (24 beds).

In addition to our residential programs, we manage an outreach program through our Reporting Centre, which provides support and assistance to individuals under supervised release. This program helps individuals maintain structure and accountability while residing outside of a CRF setting.

We also operate the Circles of Support and Accountability (CoSA) program, which supports individuals with histories of sexual offending as they transition back into society. CoSA provides structured volunteer-led support circles focused on reducing isolation, building stability, and promoting safe community integration.

Do you have single rooms?

Yes, we offer single rooms. We also have double-bunk rooms, and new residents are typically placed in shared accommodation upon arrival.

Eligibility for a single room is based on an individual’s progress and level of accountability while residing with us.

Who can apply?

SLSH accepts adult males serving a federal sentence of two years or more. We support individuals applying for day parole, individuals on statutory release with a residency condition (SRR), and those subject to long-term supervision orders (LTSO).

All cases are reviewed through the Hamilton Community Assessment Team (HCAT). SLSH participates in this process and determines whether we will support an individual for residency at one of our CRFs.

How can I apply?

Incarcerated individuals can apply to SLSH by writing a letter to our intake coordinator requesting support. Letters can be mailed to:

Community supports may also download our application form and complete it on behalf of the individual, or forward it to the individual to complete and return by mail.

What are the expectations while residing at SLSH?

Each resident is expected to:

  • Attend required meetings with his caseworker and parole office
  • Follow and adhere to house rules, such as curfews and parole conditions
  • Complete assigned chores
  • Keep his room clean and tidy
  • Attend and complete programming if required
